'Birds, Watching' as part of 'Winter Papers' exhibition, Galway 2019

February 25, 2020 Suzanne Walsh

‘Birds, Watching’, started as an essay with photographs that was published in Issue Five of annual arts anthology ‘Winter Papers, edited by Olivia Smith and Kevin Barry. This creative essay explores themes around death, mourning, mysticism and bird symbolism in the background of the artist’s father’s decline and death. During this time she became involved in wildlife rescue. The accompanying photographs show some of the relationships she formed with birds.

On further invitation from Maeve Curtis of Engage Studios in Galway, the work and issue became a ‘Winter Papers’ exhibition. The work expanded into further printed photographs, a video projection, an audio text work which was a poetic ‘shadow’ version of the video and a series of talks and performances. This took place between November 2019 and February 2020.

More info on the exhibition in general is here.
