Murmur was composed while on residency at The Guesthouse art-space in Cork in February 2019. It was inspired by records of a ‘Battle of Starlings’ over Cork city in 1621. The script for Murmur is made from comments taken from a BBC video of a starling murmuration posted online. Any direct reference to the topic of starlings themselves is removed, leaving speculation on group mind control, political paranoia, allusions to strange occurrences. Murmur also includes electronically processed vocal improvisations.
